Annual refers to plants that die back each year and must be replanted to grow again.
It is a natural growth habit where the plant will flower or seed prolifically in an effort to reproduce before the end of its lifetime. Each plant will germinate, produce seeds, flower, and die all within a year.
Any annual plant that regrows the following season is not the same plant. It is of a new generation that occurs after successful the germination of the seeds.
